The male blue-capped cordonbleu is identified by his all-blue head which distinguishes it from all other east African cordon-bleu. The birds with the brown cap in the lower and two right upper images are females. The left upper bird was taken at Mkungunero (7-06); the other three upper images were taken in Tarangire (9-06); the two horizontal images, in the Serengeti (upper, 12-07; lower, 2-08, courtesy of Karine Van der Vurst); the next row, at Seronera (10-10); and the bottom images, at Ndutu (5-10). The enlargements include an immature and a comparison image of blue-capped and red-cheeked males.
