The defining characteristics of the adult brown parrot are the yellow band across the forehead and the yellow shoulders. A yellow underwing patch shows in flight. These photos were taken in Tarangire, Serengeti, Yaida Valley and Katavi. Click the bottom photo to see enlargements including an immature and nest excavation.

In slideshow photos #9-13 the pair was excavating a nest cavity. They traded placed approximatelyevery 10 minutes. When time was up, the one inside would fly out and give a single note call; the other would then fly to the nest, go inside and the cycle would repeat.
