Black-backed Puffback
Dryoscopus cubla
Home Alphabetical Taxonomic Comments

Most of these images of black-backed puffbacks are males. The female has a short white stripe in front of the eye (images #5, 6 & 9 in the slideshow); click image above to see more. All of these images are ssp. hamatus which has white scapulars and wing edges. Similar ssp. affinis, found along the coast, has black wings, but note that the one image here of a coastal bird is hamatus (#7).
