The grey-headed woodpecker is a northeast African endemic, differing from the widespread grey woodpecker (D. goertae) by having a large red belly patch and a bright yellow mantle which are visible in most of these images. The female above was photographed at the Burka Coffee Estate (Arusha): click the image to see several enlargements.
