Susan Stolberger identified a new chat which is similar to Arnott's chat. The male is phenotypically the same as Arnott's; however, the female (upper two, horizontal and lower images) is quite different. DNA studies show a clear difference from Arnott's chat, as have sound recordings, and the ranges appear largely separate as well (see map). The upper and left middle images were made at Isunkaviola (Ruaha) in September 2009. The pair in the right middle and the horizontal images was photographed in Rwanda near the Tanzanian border, courtesy of Callan Cohen. The lower images were taken in Tarangire in March 2010, courtesy of Paul Oliver. |
