The lesser flamingo is significantly threatened by the effects of pollution, proposed industrial development and habitat loss at Lake Natron where 80% of lesser flamingo breeding occurs. An earlier 2007 proposal for industrial development has recently been revived. The amazing cycle of lesser flamingo breeding at Lake Natron has been beautifully captured in the Disney nature film 'The Crimson Wing'. |
