Speckle-throated Woodpecker
Campethera scriptoricauda
Home Alphabetical Taxonomic Comments

The speckle-throated woodpecker is a northeast African endemic. These images of a pair were made at Emayani in June 2008. The poor quality image of the male (lower right) is included to show the red forecrown and moustachial stripe. The finely speckled throat and more coarsely speckled moustachial stripe are the distinguishing features of the female.
