The brown-headed apalis is a mid- to high altitude forest species. Note the dark brown crown, the grey outer tail feathers and the white tail tip. The upper 5 photos and the left 6th row photo were taken in Kisolanza, the Udzungwa Mountains and Ngorongoro and are courtesy of Per Holmen. The right 6th row bird was in the Nou Forest. The other photos were taken in the Udzungwa Mountains by Dr. Louis A. Hansen who notes: "Age: adult; subspecies: probably the nominate race (A. a. alticola)".
