Hunter's sunbird is an East African endemic generally found in lower, dryer areas with acacias. The iridescent malar stripe can be difficult to see, as can the iridescent shoulder patch. The right upper female was in the Pugu Hills, courtesy of Isaac Kilusu. The left 4th row bird was seen in Same, courtesy of Sadik Kassam. The other photos were taken in Olasiti, Oldonyo Sambu, Shambarai and at KIA Lodge. The nest was photographed on the Maasai Steppe, courtesy of Frank Priscus Shirima: click it to see 14 enlargements including nests, juveniles and immatures. |
