The black-headed gull is an uncommon visitor to our area, see map. The upper photo was taken at Msasani Bay, courtesy of Riaan Marais. The left 2nd row photo is of an adult in moult with part of the hood remaining. The right 2nd and 3rd row photos are of October (winter) plumage. The left 4th row photo is a 1 Cy bird in August. The left 3rd row and right 4th row photos are 1Cy birds in October, all courtesy of Dr. Louis A. Hansen.
