The Madagascar heron is a large solitary bird that is endangered because of breeding habitat degradation and egg collection in Madagascar. It can be a long-distance wanderer as in these photos taken on Lake Tagalaga in Selous. The upper photo is courtesy of Ken Zaremba; the 2nd row photo is courtesy of Jocelyn Mannerings (Madagascar heron on left). The 3rd row adult and juvenile were in Selous and the lower five photos of an adult and juveniles were also taken in Selous, all courtesy of Phil Bennett.
