The red color of the base of the lower mandible (best seen in some of the enlargements) separates the buffy pipit from the otherwise similar plain-backed pipit. This photograph was taken in Kogatenda in the northern corridor of the Serengeti. Note the long hind claw. Click the photo above to see 7 enlargements.
