Miombo Blue-eared Starling

The adult miombo blue-eared or miombo glossy starling, formerly called lesser blue-eared, is similar to the greater blue-eared starling, but in good light the belly and flanks are magenta, not well seen in the photos above (upper, Mikumi; middle, Msumbugwe forest). The juvenile in the lower photo (Msumbugwe forest, 2-08) shows the distinctive mottled, rust-coloured underparts. The left 2nd row adult (Mikumi) is courtesy of Per Holmen.
