The white-headed buffalo-weaver is a northeastern Africa endemic. The Tanzanian race boehmi has a black tail. The nominate race in Kenya has a brown tail. Interbreeding occurs where territories overlap; note the brownish tail in slideshow image #2 from Tarangire. Common in acacia bush and wooded grassland. The upper photos were taken in Tarangire; the lower, in the Serengeti (left, Steve Brynes) and unrecorded (Mary Caisley).
