The red-backed mannikin is a southeast African endemic. The chestnut back and wing coverts are the main characteristics. The nest was photographed in Ngorongoro forest (1-09). The 6th row photo (Mbuyuni Farm near Morogoro, 1-20) is courtesy of Kim Axmann. The other photos were taken in Ilboru, Olasiti and West Kilimanjaro.
