The Madagascar heron is a large solitary bird that is endangered because of breeding habitat degradation and egg collection in Madagascar. It can be a long-distance wanderer as in these photos taken on Lake Tagalaga in Selous. The upper photo (1-09) is courtesy of Ken Zaremba; the 2nd row photo (10-13) is courtesy of Jocelyn Mannerings (Madagascar heron on left). The 3rd row adult and juvenile were in Selous (1-16) and the lower five photos of an adult and juveniles were also taken in Selous (3-14), all courtesy of Phil Bennett. To read more, click here.
