The nominate helmeted guineafowl has a tall casque while the southern subspecies (ssp. marungensis) has a blunt casque. Both are shown close-up in these images. The juveniles (right lower) were seen at Ndutu (5-10). The immature (right 2nd row) was seen at Ngorongoro (11-04). Ssp. marungensis (left 2nd row) was seen at Katavi (8-06). The adult and juveniles in row 6 were at Ndutu (4-14). All of the other photos above were taken in Tarangire NP.
